One of the most ignorant comment I've received from a Christian friend of mine. "Will they put a spell in those?" pointing to the door-gifts I received from a Tzu Chi event I participated in earlier today.
@@.
Oh all the events I've attended, today, I must say... was an eye opener. Being not fluent in Mandarin, it wasn't a barrier at all. I get the message sent by the event... which is to save mother earth by recycling. And the best part of it is, the recycled stuffs are manufactured into clothes and scarves .. and they're not for sale. They're for donation... donated to the poor and people in need like countries hit by natural disaster. They videotaped their events and we watched the clip in this big air-conditioned hall... and I felt nothing but shame... shame of myself for not engaging in something so beneficial like this earlier when I was still in high school. This is so awesome. We are playing our part as a small insignificant inhabitant of mother earth, but together, we can make a difference. That's the spirit.
A pair of words, a pair of hands. You can do great things. "Kan en" is that pair of words. It means "gratitude". Show our gratitude to nature with our pair of hands. Together, we can have hundred pairs of hands. Millions. Billions. Together, we can make a big difference.
I saw Malay Muslims in their headscarves there. I felt so amazed. It's so beautiful to witness people of different races coming to this event although it is under a Buddhist society. I guess, it's the theme that matters, not the religion. After all, they're not there to convert us into Buddhism but to educate us on mother earth and what our responsibilities are. So amazing.
:)
Let's do our part as citizens of this world... to make this world a better place for us, and for our future generations to live in!!!!
